One Sick Baby

Monday night Avery woke up about 12:30 with a fever of 103. When she woke up at 6:00 her fever was 104. I wasn't planning on taking her to the dr since all she really had was a fever, but when I called the nurse she said to bring her in since so many things were going around. Luckily she tested negative to strep but they didn't really nail down what it was. She did run a fever all day, but didn't have one through the night or this morning when she woke up. Hopefully it was just a little 24 hour bug and is over. All this said...she really felt bad yesterday morning and after the doctors visit she wanted to sit and watch a movie. After I put some clothes away this is what I found.

Her little head kept falling to one side and she would jerk it back up. She was so tired. Poor thing, she still has her sucker in her hand! And yes before I took her sucker and laid her down I had to run upstairs to get the camera to snap this picture. It was too funny to pass up.

Osbourne Family Reunion

On Saturday, we headed down to Litchfield, Kentucky for our annual family reunion on my grandparents farm. It is always a fun day. We go fishing (not me), bring our camping gear, eat a lot, and sit around the camp fire. This year I went very unprepared. Since it had rained all week, I though we would just go to Gramps and Granny's house and hang out. I didn't take lawn chairs, jackets, my kids didn't have socks on...so you can imagine my surprise when Gramps said "let's head to the farm!" I felt like a bad mom, I didn't even have Gracie's fishing pole. Despite all this, the day was perfect. A bit cloudy, not hot, and not muddy! The kids had a blast hanging out with their cousins. Here are a few snapshots of the fun...

Avery, Gracie, Riley, and Ethan playing on the trailer.

Avery and Riley, not yet tired of me taking pictures.

I am really glad Amber got to go with us. I think she had fun. Gramps did give her a hard time about the U of L shirt. :) (as we pulled up to the house Gracie saw their UK flag and said "yuck, cats!")

Heather was trying to teach Riley how to cast. All Riley caught was the purple, plastic fish on the end of her line. :) Others did catch some blue gill and bass.

Daddy trying to catch a fish so Avery can help reel it in.

Gramps and Sarah enjoying the meal.

Here is some military family that we never get to see. Where is Gary when I was snapping this pic?

More family enjoying the day! (and dad enjoying his cookie!)

Gracie and Heather were playing on the front porch...quietly...which made us wonder what in the world they were doing. We found them playing with the fishing worms!

Avery decided to brush Gramps' hair. When we were little, Gramps would pay us to brush his hair. The price was a nickel to a quarter if you were lucky. We didn't care, we thought that was great because then we could go down to the store on the lake and but candy! I have lots of great memories spending time down there!

And last, but not least, some of my cousins and I. We had so much fun! Saturday night we stayed up way too late playing cards and laughing until we cried! I don't see them often enough and when I do, I obviously have my kids in tow so I don't get to hang out as much as I would like. I really enjoyed it...even though it is Tuesday and I am still trying to recover from staying up until 3:30 in the morning!

So, as you can tell we had a great time. The day was great. We missed the campfire, as the skies opened up right as it got going. (and I do mean opened up...it poured!) That made it fun though because we all piled into Gramps and Granny's house! I can't wait until next year. It should be exciting chasing three kiddos around the farm!

Movies of the Week

So you all know of my girls love of Little Orphan Annie. Now, the girls have added Star Wars to their favorite movie list. Avery hums the theme song. :) Last night they were watching it and Gracie yelled, "Look! It's Yummy! It's Yummy!" I looked at the TV and said, "Do you mean Chewy?" "Oh..yeah." was her reply as she smiled. Silly girl.

All day, everyday the girls play Annie. They act it out and sing all the songs. Gracie can even do a few of the dance numbers. Most days they drag a stuffed dog around pretending it's Sandy. However, my sister has a golden doodle named Sadie. When the girls and Sadie are together, Sadie becomes Sandy. I feel sorry for the poor dog. They drag her around everywhere. You can tell she doesn't like it. It is pretty funny though.

Surprise, Surprise. Gracie wants to be Annie for Halloween. I have started looking for a costume and cannot find one. I did find one on ebay, but I'd like to see it first. If anyone sees one, let me know.

Ethiopia Bound

Not me unfortunately. Susan, the director of our agency, is leaving tomorrow and headed for Ethiopia. She has many things planned. One thing she is going to try to do is check on our paperwork and see where it is at MOWA. (Ministry of Women's Affairs....they give out court dates!) Hopefully she will find out a number of where we are in line. Our paperwork has been in this office for months. It will be nice to know if we are 3rd in line or 30th. (hopefully more like 3rd) She is also going to drop off lots of donations. Our wonderful family and ABF class at church helped us collect so many things that the orphanages needed, Thanks Guys! And of course, most importantly, she is going to check on all the children. She should return on October 4 with pictures, video, and measurements of Dawit. James and I are hopeful that he is up to 9 pounds. That will be about 1 1/2 pounds since Jana and Kenny saw him last month. Susan is taking some special vitamins for him and a supplement for weight gain. We also sent LOTS of formula.

All this said, please pray for Susan's trip, for her safety and that she accomplishes a lot while there. Pray for Dawit. That he would continue to gain weight and strength. We know that we are looking at many months of physical therapy when he gets home, and are just praying that being so much underweight doesn't have a long term effect.

I will post updates when we get them. Thanks for your prayers.

We love our Cardinals!

Yesterday we went to Mom and Dads to watch the big game. Kory and James requested I make my chicken and dumplings for the game...ask and you shall receive! It was good...YUM! (I am looking forward to it again for dinner tonight!) My cardinals played much better than I expected. Believe me, I wanted to win bad...and I really thought we had a chance for most of the game. Say what you want about our coach, and wins and loses, but I am still a fan and will cheer them on. C-A-R-D-S!!

This is the best we could do with all three girls. It is too hard to get them all to cooperate!

Please stop taking pictures!!

This is Avery's smile in every picture. Could her cheese be any bigger?

Gracie and Hannah were playing under the pool table. Hannah was cracking up! You can't tell, but they have matching cheerleader outfits.

It was a fun day. Definitely would have been better with a win...but still a fun day!

Ballet Dancer

Gracie started ballet class last week. She took a few lessons over the summer with a friend and loved it! She loved getting in her tutu, tights, and ballet slippers. She even taught us all to plie! (I was told that I did it wrong!) They even have a recital...I can't wait! She just eats it up.

Ethiopian New Years Celebration

Last Friday marked New Years Day in Ethiopia. Yes, the sign says 2002. They use a different calendar than we do. Their year consists of 12 months with 30 days and a thirteenth month with 5 days. Put it all together and what do you get...a seven year difference! To celebrate the New Year, all the families from our agency got together at the local Ethiopian restaurant, The Queen of Sheba. I was looking forward to dinner all day!! The food was delicious, the company was great, and the kiddos were too cute. Most of them came in their traditional Ethiopian attire. Here is a picture of the group, minus a few who already left.

We sat with the Scott's. The girls love Eli. (how can you not?)

Shalem had Ethiopian music videos on a big screen and all the kids danced along. Some of them had moves!!

Here are a few of our friends...

Traditionally on New Years, the children will draw very colorful flowers and present this to their parents. In return, the parents give the children coins. Here is the flower Gracie drew for me.

We had so much fun tonight! I love having such a great group to share this journey with! Here is how the night ended...Avery laying one on Eli!!

Huge Mess

So today I am home from work sick. I can't lay on the couch all day, so I thought I would play around with my blog. Try to freshen it up a bit, make it cuter. Well, as you can see, it is not going well. I tried to add a new background but it won't cover the entire background. I don't know how to fix it. I also tried to do a cute banner at the top with our picture. That didn't work either. Can anyone help?? I will keep trying. Things very well could get worse before they get better.

Happy Half Birthday!

Today Dawit turned 6 months old! He even got a present to celebrate. One of the ladies I work with got him a super soft blue elephant that has a blanket rolled up in his trunk. It is really cute. Barb was telling me how she always prays for him. I almost cried! She keeps telling me that she really feels like he is going to be home by Christmas. I hope she is right! I know that many of you remember Dawit in your prayers and I want you to know how much we appreciate it. He is half a world away and loved by so many!!

Kids Say the Funniest Things

Gracie cracks me up on a daily basis. I thought I would share some of our recent laughs.

* She is convinced that the girls name in Alice in Wonderland is Allyson. I tried to explain and she wouldn't hear it.

* When we went to the zoo Thursday I knocked over Avery's water in my lap. Gracie said, "Everyone is going to think you peed your pants, Mom." Then a few minutes later Brandi knocked over Briggs' drink. One of us made the comment that we were clumsy. Gracie replied, "I think Briggs and I need to be the parents!"

* I recently told you of the girls love for the movie Annie. They sing the songs constantly. I asked them to clean up some toys several times and they ignored me. I fussed at them and walked out of the room. I got a few steps and they started singing, "Its a hard knock life for us, its a hard knock life for us...." Crack me up! They did pick up the toys before finishing the entire song!

ADDITIONS:
* Brandi reminded me of this one....Since Brandi and Aaron gave us the state fair tickets, I asked Gracie to tell Brandi all about the fun they had. Instead of telling her about the rides, games, animals, etc. Gracie couldn't wait to tell her about the "explosion" Avery had. I will spare you the details that Brandi heard. Gross and too much information!

* We had a guest this weekend. When we dropped her off at home, they asked Gracie, "Was she good?" Gracie replied, "Yeah, but she clogged the toilet."

I could go on....

Putting on the Pounds

Well, we got an update on our babe in Ethiopia! Jana sent some SWEET pictures. (thanks!) Dawit is weighing in at a whopping 7.7 pounds! Whoo! I think it has been a little over a month and he gained one pound. I will take that! In his newest picture, he did look a little bigger to us. (maybe it was the pink hat!) We got a picture of his crib. One of the toys we sent was in it and hanging on the side was the picture album we sent. Jana said that he was a sweetie. We are so thankful she made the extra trip to visit him! Gained weight= answered prayer!!

Avery has always prayed "Thank you God my baby brother, Dawit..."

Now her prayer (every night, meal, etc.) is "Thanks you God my baby brother, Dawit, and all my peoples in E-pe-o-pe-a..." :)
